ART PUBLISHERS ASSOCIATION (APA)

What is APA?
The Art Publishers Association (APA) is initially a "Special Interest Group" under the PPFA umbrella, with distinct accounting, funding and spending controlled by art publishers.

Why?
The mission of APA is to bring together art publishers to strengthen the entire art publishing industry.

Key aims include:
  • Providing a forum for networking and open communication.
  • Growing the market for fine art reproduction prints.
  • Promoting consensus publishing terminology and standards.
  • Educating retailers and consumers through exhibitions, seminars and media.
  • Providing market research and industry information.
  • Managing our businesses ethically and professionally.
  • Advocating on behalf of the industry with related industry groups and government.
Who?
Voting members of APA must be directly engaged in the business of fine art publishing. Associate Members may be distributors of fine art prints; magazine, newspaper, or other media companies involved in fine art publishing; printers of fine art.

The APA will have a Steering Committee composed of between 5 and 10 Voting Members, one of whom will serve on the PPFA board.

How Much?
Dues will be the same amount as for PPFA suppliers:
  • $ 250 for companies with sales up to 500,000.
  • $ 625 for companies with sales $500,000 to $5,000,000
  • $1,250 for companies with sales over $5,000,000
Committees?
There are currently two committees working within the APA: The Uniform Standards Committee, chaired by Ray Granger, marketing director of Joan Cawley Gallery, in Tempe, Arizona; and The Market Expansion Committee, chaired by Robert Sher, president of Bentley Publishing Group, in Walnut Creek California. The Uniform Standards Committee exists to research and establish industry standards intended as guidelines for all publishers of fine art editions, while the purpose of the Market Expansion Committee is to grow the market for art.
