We are looking for a program to use with a scanner and our Valiani CMC that would scan a photo or object and then transpose it into the CMC so that a mat could be cut for that photo or object. We are thinking more on the lines of non symetrical objects that would be difficult to draw with the CMC drawing program. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

My Valiani CMC does a great job cutting odd shapes, even the most intricate of them.

We use Corel Draw X4 for our advanced mat designs, but that program also does an excellent job with simpler designs, quickly and easily.

I suggest taking a good digital photograph of the shape you wish to duplicate in the mat cutting. Import the .JPG image into your program for advanced designs, use "line trace" to make a line drawing of it, and clean it up as needed. Usually this involves removing excess nodes, and perhaps superfluous parts of the image.

When you have the image ready to cut, save it as a .PLT file in one of the folders in your Valiani cutting program. Open the cutting program, start a new mat file, and open the image from the folder where you asved it in .PLT format. Then, you may want to specify a cutting sequence, multiple mat layers, and/or multiple cutting heads.

If you need more specific help, or if you don''t have the latest Valiani FutureMatDesigner software, I suggest you contact Valiani USA and ask for technical help.
